The Shelter Projekt is a cooperative, membership-based platform dedicated to community-driven housing solutions, regeneration, and resilience. It operates on the belief that those with lived experience and local knowledge are best positioned to lead meaningful change—empowering participants rather than waiting for external authorities or institutions to act.
Membership in The Shelter Projekt means active participation and shared ownership. Members collaborate in decision-making, contribute skills and knowledge, and benefit from shared resources and opportunities, understanding that there are no owners, but "fellow stewards" This approach ensures that solutions are grounded in real community needs and sustained by collective commitment.
Membership welcomes three kinds of participants:
Those with lived experience, personal commitment, or direct involvement in the issues we address—whether as helpers, witnesses, or advocates.
Institutions, industry partners, academics, humanitarian organizations, and government bodies at federal, provincial, and municipal levels who share the mission.
Individuals with diverse skills and passions who believe everyone has something valuable to contribute toward co-creating the world we envision.
Membership is grounded not in titles or status, but in the practice of shared values and a right heart posture—approaching the work with humility, openness, service and commitment. It is this genuine spirit of meaningful participation and collective care that allows us to rise together. United by purpose and integrity, our combined strengths build a future that is truly stronger together.
The Shelter Projekt works in close partnership with industry while deeply embedding community engagement and capacity building. Recognizing that housing affordability is fundamentally an economic challenge, the platform goes beyond simply providing shelter. It implements long-term strategies that promote economic stability, create access to livelihoods, and foster collaboration with sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, construction, social enterprise, and small- to medium-sized businesses—offering holistic, sustainable alternatives to traditional housing models. In doing so, it strengthens community resilience and weaves a stronger social fabric for lasting well-being.
2. How does the cooperative membership work?
Membership in The Shelter Projekt is grounded in a shared commitment to steward resources—rather than own them—for the collective good. Members serve as mindful stewards, nurturing and safeguarding community assets with care, responsibility, and respect. This stewardship honors a multifaith, inclusive spirituality rooted in truth and spirit, centered on unity, reciprocity, and fair exchange. Together, as partners in light and justice, members dedicate themselves to building a just, thriving society that honors the dignity of all.
